Principal's Message

A new school year brings many new experiences, learning opportunities, and special events for our students, and we are so blessed to share those activities and memories with such a special group of students and their families! Conover School has made much growth in the past few years, both socially and academically! We believe that we have made great strides because of our commitment to a clear, common vision, mission, and goals:
We believe that all students can learn, and that effective teaching is the result of the collaborative efforts of school, parents, and community.  Our goal is to empower students to become independent and productive citizens within the framework of support provided by school, family, community, and other agencies. By doing so, we hope to become a model school for students with moderate/severe disabilities by employing a committed and caring staff. This handbook will assist you in understanding the functions and guidelines of our school and how you can partner with us to insure that we fulfill our mission, goals, and objectives.
We are pleased to be able to offer a nurturing environment that enables your child to grow socially, as well as academically. We are a fully licensed Developmental Day Center for all of our students, ages 3 to 22. This means that we are now receiving more targeted governmental funding to meet the individual and corporate needs of our students.  Our staff provides daily opportunities for students to be successful and become more independent each day.  They tailor unique and inviting lessons that will meet each student’s individual needs.  We invite you to come take a look at all the exciting things that go on in our classrooms each day.  Please feel free to visit our school and provide feedback to us as to how we can better meet the needs of your students.  If I can be of any assistance to you and your family, please feel free to call me at 828-464-9532 or send me an email at   I look forward to a wonderful year with you and your child.
You can assist us and your child by:

  • Attending IEP meeting and conferences
  • Communicating often with your child’s teacher – through daily communication notebooks, phone calls,  or email
  • Sending your child to school regularly, and on time, each day
  • Being involved in the activities at school with your child
  • Providing the necessary medications to be administered at school
  • Respecting the privacy and confidentiality of other families and students
  • Informing staff regarding address changes, new phone numbers, etc.
  • Completing all Developmental Day Regulations paperwork, when sent home by teachers

We look forward to working together to make 2017-2018 a great school year, full of many successes! We are honored to serve your children each day, and we appreciate your faith in us to do so!
