                        Welcome to the Room #3 Elementary Class at Conover School!   

Dear Families,         

Welcome to a new school year! We are all looking forward to a fun year full of learning activities!

To introduce the classroom staff in Room #3- Elementary Level:

    I have taught here at Conover School for the past 2 years- Laura Buell (Ms. Laura). I have been teaching and working in the area of Special Education for 38 years. I have worked with children from birth to high school age, with a wide range of ability levels and areas of disabilities. Most recently, I taught in a self-contained classroom K-3, providing instruction using an adaptive curriculum- just like here at Conover. I have also worked as an Early Interventionist, Director of two Developmental Day Centers, and as an self-contained elementary classroom teacher of children with mild to severe delays.

   Mr. Dontae Ramseur is the educational assistant in this classroom. He is new to Conover School, but comes with experience working with children. Last year, he worked as a Crisis Assistant for NCCS. He also has experience working with the Boys and Girls Club and with community organizations for children.

Also, please welcome Ms. Nicole Boggs as a ½ time assistant. She will work daily from 7:30 - 11:00 in our classroom. Ms. Nicole has much experience working with preschool students and students in self-contained classes. We are so pleased to have her join us!


   The small staff to child ratio allows us to provide intensive individualized educational experiences for all the students. The individualized goals on your child’s IEP will be addressed daily. In this classroom, your child will be provided multiple opportunities daily to develop social and communication skills. Functional and independence skills for each child are also taught and encouraged. Literacy and math skills are the focus of individual instruction and integrated into enrichment hands-on activities.

    There are 3 things that I have found to be very important to help each student develop to his or her own fullest potential.

1) I encourage each student to be as independent as possible.

2) Communication skills are stressed and reinforced continuously.

3) Social skills are so valuable as your child interacts with teachers and his friends.

   Our new PE Teacher, Matt Amato, will provide PE 2 times a week, with health education 1 day a week. We have music taught by Ms. Jule 1 time a week. Art is provided by a community volunteer, Ms. Ginny, 1 time a month.

A general classroom schedule is attached. As the Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy schedules are determined, you will be notified of your child’s specific times.


Your child will have an agenda that will be sent home daily. Notes about your child’s day, needed supplies, and upcoming events will be noted. Also- please use the agenda to send us notes. For example, let us know if your child didn’t sleep well the night so we will be aware that it may affect his/her behavior. Also- your child will have a 2 pocket folder that will go home daily. One pocket will be used for papers that need to be returned to school. The other pocket will be used for papers that do not need to be returned such as the weekly newsletter.

leave a voicemail message-ext. 222. Since we are so busy in the classroom all day, email will be checked prior to 7:30 am and then again at 2:45. Please do not use email for a message that needs immediate attention.
