Hello, welcome to the Room 13 family! My name is Rebecca Schaeffer. I am the teacher of a fabulous group of students who learn and live in this room all year long. Melissa Hayes and Susan Estes are our assistants. We would be lost without them! They help keep us organized, clean, and on the right line of our schedule throughout the day.
We use Unique Learning curriculum to learn NCEXTEND1 standards. We practice life skills and job skills. We are fortunate to have our school garden right outside our backdoor. We spend time growing fresh herbs, vegetables, and beautiful flowers throughout the year. Our students enjoy watching garden friends, like hummingbirds, come visit outside our window. This year we have a new life skills classroom next door to us. We will be learning to make a bed, care for laundry, cook, clean, set a table, and other daily living chores. I am so excited! We are fortunate to have a student intern with us this year. Ryan Sacoco is our intern from Western Carolina University. He will be with us all year.
This year Conover's School theme is to focus on "Students." Our students are the most important people in this building. In room 13 we say we are a family always. In a family no one is left behind or left out. We care for each other all the time. We help each other no matter what. We are all just as important as the person sitting next to us. The best part of our class is once you are in our class, you never leave our family. We have members who graduated years ago who are still part of our family.
Our school motto is: "We will Adapt, Respect, and be our Happiest selves." We are Chameleons!
Let's get our year started!
