Speech

Hi there! Welcome to my speech-language page. Please take a look at some links to the right for super helpful and informative pages about augmentative alternative communication, aided language, and ASHA (national organization for speech-language pathologists and audiologists).

I love chatting with families about communication options, so please don't hesitate to stop by.
About Me:
I was born and raised in NC (Statesville). I received my BSN from UNC-Charlotte and worked as a nurse in the operating room for a short time. I decided my passion was working with children, and pursued a degree in Communication Disorders/Speech-Language Pathology. I received my MA (Master of Arts) from UNC-Greensboro. I moved to California and worked for a few years there in the schools (preschool and school age). I have worked with both preschool and school age populations in NC since moving back "home". I have found my passion in working with students at Conover School. Researching, trialing, adapting, and creating various forms of communication supports have been worthwhile challenges and endeavors. Helping a child find his/her "voice" is truly rewarding.

When not working, I enjoy the beach...it's my happy place. I love to travel! Reading is a great way to de-stress and relax. I have a very sweet fur baby named Mattie, and we spend time outdoors when possible.

This link provides a list, as well as features of tablet based apps for communication.

There are also companies that specialize in designated devices for communicators that may benefit from an alternative to an iPad or tablet based communication app.

  •       ASHA is the national organization that governs Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists. It is a great resource for research, current trends, and practical information.

  •       Praactical AAC is a great web-based resource for anything related to alternative or augmentative communication. You can search by topic (core vocabulary, aided language, manual boards, communication apps, modeling, progression of skills, etc.).
